About Serpil Gurkan
Serpil Gurkan is a Sydney based artist, specialising in the art of Ebru, painting on water. Serpil also creates Miniature and Illumination works.
Serpil began learning these ancient artforms during her time spent in the mystical city of Istanbul. She has a passion for working with pure pigments and natural earth colours. At times preparing her own colours by grinding pigments with a muller.
Serpil has been exhibiting her work since 2007 in group and solo exhibitions. Solo exhibitions were held at Balmain Watch Gallery in 2012 and 2014. The highlight of her art career was when she sold her first artwork on opening night of a solo exhibition to an arts professor.
Serpil also holds workshops and demonstrations, some previous major ones being for the Girls Scouts Sydney Jamboree 2018 and Collins Debden 200th Anniversary 2019.
